t Feet Sports Madison Destination Half & Marathon TrainingEscape the Wisconsin winter and join Fleet Feet Sports Madison in sunny Huntington Beach, CA for our 2015 Destination Training program: the Surf City Half & Full Marathon! This oceanfront course is a California dream and runners love California – especially in February! Options include Marathon and Half Marathon. All pace levels are welcome!

While it’s an absolute blast celebrating in a warm destination with your running friends at the end of 12 weeks, you are not required to travel in order to participate in the training program (but it is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED – just ask the 50 people who made the trip to New Orleans last year!)

INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS

Informational meetings will be held at Fleet Feet Sports Madison & Fleet Feet Sports Sun Prairie. You will receive additional information on registration, group events, hotel information and reservation, and any other questions you have regarding the trip or training program.

Tuesday, October 21 – 7:15PM (FFS Madison)
Tuesday, October 28 – 7:15PM (FFS Sun Prairie)
Goal Race: Surf City Half & Full Marathon: February 1, 2015
Race Start: 6:30AM (Full Marathon), 7:45am (Half Marathon)


TRAINING PROGRAM:   Registration Closed

Program Cost: Early Bird Discount: $75, Regular: $90 (after Nov 1, 2013)
*Entry into the race is NOT included in program registration
*We STRONGLY encourage you to register for the race EARLY as it typically sells out mid-December
Registration Deadline:  Monday, November 10, 2014
Kick-Off: Friday, November 14, 7:15PM – Fleet Feet Sports Madison
Program Duration: Saturday, November 15 – Sunday, February 1 (12 weeks)

All paid participants will receive their first group email by Monday, November 10.  That email will include your half or full marathon training program and other program details.  All weekly emails will be sent on Monday mornings and will supply all the information needed for that week.

NOTES
FULL MARATHON: due to the duration of and timing of the program, participants wishing to train for the full marathon will need to be up to a long run of 10-12 miles by the start of the training. Those interested in the full marathon will be given a "pre-training plan" to do on their own 4 weeks before the program start date in order to build properly for the first long run of the training program. The "pre-training plan" will start on October 18, 2014 and will begin at 6 miles. Participants must be registered by then if they would like to receive this "pre-program" - otherwise it will be forwarded upon registration.

HALF MARATHON: For half marathon training we recommend you be able to run 3 miles 3x/week by the start of the program with the first long group run set at 4 miles.

Registrants can join in on the Fall Half & Full Marathon Training group runs geared toward the Madison Marathon Events taking place on Sunday mornings @ 8AM (running through November 5, 2014) at no additional cost starting October 18, 2014. Please contact dolanm@fleetfeetmadison.com for meeting locations. This is a great option to keep you accountable and run with a group prior the start of the first group run.

These recommendations are set to ensure you stay healthy and injury free throughout the season and build on an existing fitness foundation. If you have any questions or concerns about these recommendations, please contact the Director of Training Programs at dolanm@fleetfeetmadison.com.

Group Runs: Coached group runs will take place on SATURDAY mornings at 8AM at varied locations around the Madison area. We encourage all participants to also take part in Wednesday Fun Runs (FFS Madison) and/or Thursday pub runs (Rotating Locations), for mid-week mileage. FFS Sun Prairie mid-week Fun Runs TBD (September 2014). This will give you multiple options to get your runs in mid- week.

TRAVEL:

Travel Days: January 30, 2015 -Feb 2, 2015 (3 nights, Fly In: Friday, Fly Out: Monday).  This is the time frame that was negotiated with the hotel for the group rate. If participants are interested in staying longer, or leaving earlier, you may do so subject to availability of rooms at the time the reservation is made and are not guaranteed the group rate outside of the travel days negotiated.

Flights: Each participant is responsible for booking their own flight.  You can fly into John Wayne Airport (SNA) or Los Angeles (LAX).

LODGING:

The Shorebreak Hotel is approximately .30 miles from the start/finish line.  It is a beautiful 4-star property located across from the ocean.  It is also within walking distance of the city, so there are several restaurants at our disposal. This is a PRIME location. Sharing a room with other participants is a great option for those who are budget conscious. We can help make these connections as reservations are being made.

Group Rates:
Single Occupancy: $185/night + tax
Double Occupancy: $185/night + tax
Triple Occupancy: $205/night + tax
Quadruple Occupancy: $225/night + tax

Please note: hotel taxes are currently set at 12.065% in this area

TRANSPORTATION:

You are responsible for your own transportation from the airport to the hotel and vice versa. The best option is to split this cost with other participants. Once everyone has made their flight arrangements, we will combine all the flight information to help you make these connections.  (Orange Co. is approx. 13 miles and offering taxi service for about $40/OW - LAX is approx. 37 miles and offering taxi service for about $90/OW).

DINING:

There will be two organized group dinners while in Huntington Beach. One will take place early Saturday evening (Jan 31) and another Sunday night (Feb. 1).  You are responsible for finding your own meals for the remainder of your stay.

RESERVATION DEADLINE:

Hotel Reservation forms will be due on Monday, Dec 1, 2014. No exceptions. By December 1, 2014 you must be committed to the trip if you would like to stay in our hotel. They will release any unused rooms from our block back into the hotel’s general inventory shortly after this date. Family and friends who are not training or racing are welcome to join the group along on the trip – however, they too will need to fill out a group hotel reservation form.
