2008 Fleet Feet Aquathon Series Dates Announced

Back for our third season, the swim/run events will be held at Warner Park at 7pm on the following Thursday nights:

  • May 29
  • June 19
  • July 17
  • August 7
  • August 21

    So what is an Aquathon?

    The Fleet Feet Aquathon Series is comprised of five events held at Warner Park Beach in Madison, Wisconsin. Each event consists of a 1000 meter swim followed by a 5000 meter run. Perfect for mid-week training with a bonus of chip timing and series prizes for the top finishers!

    Where and When

    Warner Park Beach - Once a month on Thursday evenings from May through August 2008:

    Weather Policy: In the case of inclement weather the Race Director will make the race time decision on the delay or cancellation of the event. We will make every effort to hold the race on the scheduled date. If necessary, the distances of the swim and/or run may be modified based on conditions and safety. In the case of cancellation we will make every effort possible to reschedule the event at a later date subject to park availability. If an event is cancelled please check this website for rescheduling information. Also, if threatening weather, ie. severe thunderstorms, please check this website, the Fleet Feet website, and your email for news regarding possible cancellation of the event.


    Registration

    Participants may register online at Active.com or prior to the event beginning at 6:30 p.m. You may also print the registration form and drop it off or mail it to Fleet Feet or bring it with you for faster day of registration. All races will start at 7:00 p.m.

    Cost:

  • Individual: $15.00 per Event or $65.00 for Entire Series (Includes Technical T-shirt).
  • Relay: $20.00 per Event (Relays are two people – #1 Swim and #2 Run)
  • ****Add $5.00 to the above costs for race day registration****


    Course

    The 1000 meter swim will start at Warner Park Beach and consist of a triangular course marked by two buoys. The transition area will be located to the southeast of the beach and the beach house and the start to the 5k will be near the entrance to the beach parking lot. The 5k course will follow Woodward Avenue to Sheridan Drive and the entrance to Warner Park where it will follow the paved path through the park and back to the finish south of the beach house.

    Group Run

    Series Scoring

    Scoring will be based on finish placing. 1st place = 100pts, 2nd place = 99 pts, etc. Fifteenth place would be 85 pts. If you do not compete in an event, zero points will be awarded. The final series score will be based on the best 4 finishes out of the 5 events.

    • Top Three Female 20 - 29
    • Top Three Male 30 - 39
    • Top Three Female 30 - 39
    • Top Three Male 40 - 49
    • Top Three Female 40 - 49
    • Top Three Male 50 - 59
    • Top Three Female 50 - 59
    • Top Three Male 60 & Over (Masters)
    • Top Three Female 60 & Over (Masters)
    • Clydesdale - Men 200+ lbs
    • Athena - Women 150+
    • Fastest Relay team (must be run as a relay at one of the events - not best splits added together afterward)

    In case of tie, winner determined by:

    1. Head to head total race points
    2. Older contestant

    Prizes are yet to be determined but will be in the form of gift certificats and goodies from one or more of our sponsors.

    VOLUNTEER POINTS – participants that volunteer as course marshals, boat patrol, lifeguards, or traffic control will earn 50 points per event for up to two events. If you are interested in volunteering for an event please contact Ryan Griessmeyer

    2007 Aquathon Series Summary

    Congratulations to Brian Herzog and Heather Curnutt who were the men's and women's 2007 Aquathon Series champions and to everyone that participated in the Aquathon series this year. For the final Aquathon Standings as well as age group results and individual event results, please check the Results & Standings section below.

    Aquathon #5 - Top 3 PR Results.

    The Fleet Feet Aquathon Series finale saw a new twist. Those that raced Aquathon #5 had their times matched against their previous race times to see who could improve on their PR the most. The race crew definitely saw an increase in the competitors efforts. The top three PR's were:

  • 1st: Theresa Juhlin 6:21 (Free '08 Aquathon Series Entry)
  • 2nd: Karen Mittelstadt 4:33 ($50 Aruba Sport Glasses)
  • 3rd: Dennis Hilsenhoff 4:19 ($25 Fleet Feet Gift Certificate)

    Congratulations to all that had PR's at this race and throughout the year. The PR awards can be picked up at the Aquathon Party or at Fleet Feet after September 27th.
